Compact Contacts for macOS

Effective July 21, 2026 · Publisher: Caglar Serdar

Overview

Compact Contacts is a macOS application for viewing and managing contacts already stored in the system Contacts database. It does not create a separate contact account or synchronization service. Contact processing happens locally on your Mac.

We do not sell personal information or use contact information for advertising, tracking, profiling, analytics, or enrichment.

Contacts access

The Standard edition requests macOS Contacts permission to show and, only when you explicitly choose, update supported records. It may process names, organizations, job information, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses, dates, relationships, URLs, images, group membership, and account/container metadata. It does not request the restricted contact-notes entitlement or contact note field.

You control access in System Settings. If access is denied or restricted, real system-contact features remain unavailable until access is restored; the separate Sample Contacts workspace remains available without permission.

Sample Contacts

You can explore a clearly labeled Sample Contacts workspace without granting Contacts permission. It contains fictional names and non-routable sample values generated from a bundled catalog and never reads or writes the macOS Contacts database.

Sample edits, new contacts, imports, groups, Favorites, Recents, and Saved Views remain in memory and are discarded when you reset Sample Contacts, choose Use My Contacts, or quit the app. Separate sample layout preferences may be retained by macOS, but sample contact cards and contact-derived session metadata are not written to the production preferences file.

Data we do not collect through the app

The app does not transmit contact content or identifiers, search queries, clipboard content, edit drafts, advertising identifiers, usage analytics, tracking data, or diagnostic reports to us. It contains no developer-operated contact backend and no third-party analytics or contact-enrichment SDK.

Data stored on your Mac

Compact Contacts may store settings and operational metadata locally, including window and table preferences, Saved View definitions, favorite and recent opaque references, and a Contacts change-history token. The system Contacts database remains the source of truth. Search content and active edit drafts remain in memory and are rebuilt or discarded as needed.

Synchronization

macOS and providers you configure—such as iCloud, Google, Exchange, or CardDAV—control synchronization under their own terms and privacy policies. Compact Contacts does not operate or verify that synchronization.

App purchase

Compact Contacts is sold as a paid App Store download. The app contains no subscription, trial, in-app purchase, purchase restoration screen, or feature tier. Apple processes App Store account, payment, and tax information under Apple's policies; Compact Contacts does not receive or transmit purchase identity to a developer server.

Duplicate review

Duplicate scanning and field comparison happen locally after you explicitly start a scan. The review is read-only: Compact Contacts does not edit, link, merge, or delete the compared records. You can open Apple Contacts if you decide to make changes.

The Apple Contacts handoff is unavailable for fictional Sample Contacts because those records do not exist in the system Contacts database.

Files and diagnostics

vCard import/export and diagnostic export happen only after you choose a file through a macOS panel. Exported vCards can contain contact information. Diagnostic reports are designed to exclude contact content and are never uploaded automatically. You control where files are saved and whether they are shared.

Actions handled by other apps

If you choose email, message, call, FaceTime, maps, website, or Apple Contacts actions, Compact Contacts hands the request to macOS or the selected app. Further processing is controlled by that service and its privacy policy.

These system handoffs are disabled while viewing fictional Sample Contacts. Explicit copy and user-selected export remain available and can place fictional sample values on the system pasteboard or in a file you choose.

Support communications

If you email wedontneed@gmail.com, we receive the information you choose to send. We use it only to answer, investigate, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations. Support email is handled through Google Gmail and retained only while reasonably necessary for those purposes, then deleted or de-identified unless law requires longer retention. Do not send real contact data or unredacted address books.

Website hosting

This static policy and support site is hosted by GitHub Pages. GitHub may process technical request information such as IP address and browser data under GitHub's privacy statement. The app itself does not load this site unless you choose a support or privacy link.

Security

We use the macOS App Sandbox, system permission controls, minimal entitlements, local processing, and redacted logging/diagnostics to reduce exposure. No security measure is perfect.

Children

Compact Contacts is a general productivity tool and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect children's personal information through the app.

Your choices and rights

You may change Contacts permission, edit or delete system contact records subject to provider permissions, clear locally managed app preferences, and choose whether to import, export, or share any file. For information you deliberately sent to support, contact us to exercise rights available under applicable law. Because we do not receive your on-device contacts, we cannot access, export, correct, or delete them for you.

International processing

Support email and website request data may be processed outside your country by Google and GitHub under their published safeguards and terms.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the app, law, or our operations change. The current version and effective date will be posted here before changes affecting App Store privacy disclosures take effect.
